Individual and Group Psychotherapy in Nashville

“I want to feel myself part of things, of the great drift and swirl: not cut off, missing things, like being sent to bed early as a child, the blinds being drawn while the sun and cheerful voices came through the chink from the garden.” -Marion Milner, A Life of One’s Own

Welcome!

I’m Christina Oliver, a Nashville psychotherapist who works with adults in both individual and group settings. I also lead therapy groups and training opportunities for therapists interested in deepening their work and furthering their personal and professional growth.

My Approach

I work with people in all stages of life who desire healing from the impact of trauma and neglect, who feel stuck in unhealthy relationship patterns, as well as those who are making important transitions in their lives. I enjoy working with people involved in creative work who find meaning in self-expression and artistic collaboration.

For many people, some combination of both individual and group therapy is ideal. Often, the intimacy and more personal focus of individual therapy is the most comfortable way to get started. If your goals involve improving your relationship with yourself and others, joining a group can provide a supportive place to test out new behaviors and practice greater authenticity.

Working with a well-matched therapist can be a powerful catalyst for change that brings greater vitality and fulfilment in life. If you are interested in exploring whether we’d be a good fit to work together, please contact me to set up a free phone consultation.

About Me

I received my Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University in Los Angeles. Since that time, I have received advanced training in areas that include modern analytic group therapy, eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and psychodynamic psychotherapy.

I am a member and past chair of the Nashville Psychotherapy Institute (NPI), which is an organization of mental health professionals from all disciplines. I am past president and current treasurer of the Nashville Group Psychotherapy Society (NGPS), a local chapter of the American Group Psychotherapy Society, whose purpose is to support the development of high-quality group therapy resources in our area.

I believe that to be an effective therapist and group facilitator, one should be engaging in therapy and training experiences on an ongoing basis. To that end, I am committed to actively engaging in my own ongoing personal and professional development.

When I’m not working, I enjoy adventurous travel with my children, bird watching with my husband, watching international films, and making documentaries with friends.

About My Clients

I work with adults of all genders in all phases of life in individual and group settings, on both a short-term and long-term basis. As no two individuals are alike, I will collaborate with you to create a tailored approach based on your unique needs.

My goal is to help you develop healthy relationships with yourself and others, the ability to experience the full spectrum of human emotion, and an invigorated approach to your life, in whatever phase or situation you currently find yourself.

I enjoy exploring the relationship between creativity and mental health, and I work with many individuals seeking to expand their creative capacity as an important component of fulfillment.

My practice is inclusive and welcoming to all.

Sessions are available in person and through telehealth.
